National No Smoking Day 2019

March 13th is No Smoking Day in the UK - this is a health awareness day for all smokers who want to quit smoking. The very first No Smoking Day was on Ash Wednesday in 1984, and it now takes place on the second Wednesday every March.

Why should I quit smoking?

According to the British Heart Foundation, "quitting smoking is the single best thing you can do for your heart health". Statistics from Public Health England show that smoking increases the risk of over 50 serious health conditions.

Quitting smoking really is the best thing you can do for the health of yourself and your loved ones!

Can I really quit smoking?

In 2016, nearly 16% of UK adults smoked - that's a massive 7.6 million people! But the good news is that smoking is on the decline. That 16% is down from 24% in 2007. If they can do it, so can you! And with the rise of social media, it's easier to find support now more than ever - try searching for stop smoking support groups near you to find local quitters who can hold you accountable.

What's the difference between smoking and vaping?

Electronic cigarettes allow "e-liquids" to be inhaled as a vapour, as opposed to cigarettes which use combustion to create smoke. This inhaling of vapour is called vaping. E-liquids can contain nicotine, which helps some people to satisfy their nicotine cravings - but you can also get nicotine-free e-liquid. E-cigs contain no tobacco and they do not produce carbon monoxide or tar like cigarettes do. E-cigarettes come in all sorts of shapes and sizes - from small pod-style devices to big and powerful box mods. E-liquids also come in hundreds of different flavours - from traditional tobacco flavoured e-liquid to fruit tart to lemon sherbet! It's all about picking the right setup, the right flavour and the right nicotine strength for you.
