Cancer Research UK Supports Vaping In Latest Briefing

As they are one of the world’s largest cancer treatment and prevention organisations, we are incredibly pleased to see Cancer Research UK’s latest briefing on electronic cigarettes. More and more research is coming out every month showing just how much of a difference vaping has made in the lives of so many former smokers. Even so, it is fantastic when respected organisations such as CRUK show their support for this industry.
CRUK has long been a supporter of electronic cigarettes as a method of quitting smoking, as vaping is up to 95% less harmful than smoking. Smoking is the largest cause of preventable cancer worldwide, and in the UK smoking is responsible for 15% of cancer cases. A recent study commissioned by Cancer Research UK in England showed that the use of e-cigarettes may have helped 18,000 smokers quit in 2015. As well as this, vaping produces far less second-hand vapour than cigarettes do second-hand smoke, and this vapour contains far fewer harmful chemicals than second-hand smoke.
Currently about 2.9 million adults (6% of the population) in Great Britain vape regularly. And in 2017, for the first time ever, there were more ex-smokers using e-cigarettes than there were current cigarette smokers. Over half of vapers are now ex-smokers.
