Is SKE set to be the new Elf Bar? Here we put the SKE Crystal Bar range through it’s paces to see how this newcomer compares to the ever popular Elf Bar 600 and Geek Bar E600 ranges

Sikary, the company behind the SKE vape brand launched in 2013 in Shenzhen, China. In the years since, they have built themselves a reputation as one of the world's leading manufacturers of vape devices, and here we look at one of their recently launched product ranges, the SKE Crystal Disposable Vape Bars.

Whilst the SKE Crystal range may be fairly new to the UK vape market (the launch of their first crystal disposable was early in 2022), Sikary owns more than 180 Intellectual property rights for electronic cigarette core technology and they sell a wide variety of vape product ranges across the world. Although you might not have heard of them, they are actually a well-established international vape company whose focus remains firmly on product development of high-quality and high-performance vapes, with safety as a priority.

In the UK, the SKE branded disposable vape ranges include the increasingly popular SKE Crystal Bar, launched in summer 2022, and the new SKE Amare Crystal One, due to launch in 2023.

Designed for adult smokers to deliver a flavoursome vape and smooth nicotine hit, the SKE Crystal Bar is a non-rechargeable, disposable vape with an internal pre-filled tank containing 2ml of nic-salt based e liquid.

The high-quality crafted coloured body is housed in an attractive clear diamond-cut outer casing which resembles crystal in both appearance and texture. The packaging is reasonably attractive and for the most part made from a recyclable cardboard. Each vape is then contained in a sealed foil pack to preserve flavour and protect from outside elements until use.

SKE Crystal Bars are becoming a popular choice over alternative brands due to the wide array of flavours available - currently 40 in total. All the familiar flavours are included; Blue Razz Lemonade, Blueberry Sour Raspberry and Kiwi Passion Fruit Guava, as well as an impressive Tobacco flavour as a cigarette-taste alternative. At Vapourcore it became apparent very quickly after launch that the newer and more unique flavour blends such as Fizzy Cherry, Mint Mojito and Gummy Bear caught the eye of both staff and customers alike.

Whilst the SKE Crystal range gives a good opportunity to experiment with new flavours and expand taste choices, currently you are limited to a 20mg nicotine strength which may not be suitable for occasional smokers/vapers or those looking to reduce nicotine consumption within their brand of choice. It would be good to see lower 10mg and nicotine-free 0mg versions available in this range in the future to cater to all needs and preferences.

SKE Crystal Bars are UK legal products with all Product IDs listed on the MHRA website to show authenticity, the relevant TPD warnings, safety notices and flavour ingredients are clearly marked on the packaging with safety marks present and correct on each device.

Comparable products to the SKE Crystal Bars are the similarly styled alternative crystal vapes from brands including IVG, Vapes Bars and HIT. These ranges share the same diamond-cut crystal effect outer which does give an attractive and colourful finish to what would otherwise be a fairly basic, vertical, pen-style vape device. In comparison, from in-house analysis, the SKE flavours in generic flavours certainly hold their own against these competitor brand alternatives in all aspects of taste, build quality and battery longevity.

Whilst not personally a fan of overly sweet and fruity blends that most product names suggest, I sampled a few surprisingly enjoyable flavours within the SKE Crystal Bar range, I would recommend the Fresh Menthol Mojito, Menthol and the Blueberry Cherry Cranberry which whilst fruity, has slightly tart notes. With all of this choice I am confident that there will be a Crystal Bar flavour available to satisfy any taste.

In terms of popularity, my overall prediction is that, yes, the SKE crystal Bar has a very good chance of becoming the ‘next' Elf Bar. It is similar in both size and performance, lasts up to the promised 600 puffs, and is available in a wide array of interesting flavours (we currently stock 30 in total), including fruit blends, traditional Tobacco & Menthol options. This should ensure long-term satisfaction and loyalty to the brand for all adult vape customers.

Victoria's Review

Looking at the packaging, it has most of the same features as my regular disposable vape, which is usually the Elf Bar 600. It’s a simple draw activated device, pre-filled with 2ml of flavoured e-liquid, 2% nicotine salts, and claims to provide about 600 puffs per bar. Prices vary anywhere from £4-£6, depending on retailer and multiple purchase offers etc. which again, is very much in line with other similar devices on the market. One notable difference however is that the Crystal Bar boasts a mesh coil.

Now, I’m no expert on the technical side of things, but according to some of the ‘vaping connoisseurs’ out there, the mesh coil allows for a superior flavour and produces a better vapour(!!) Sounds good to me.

Each device has a QR code printed on the side which allows you to verify its authenticity. This is a useful feature as increasing numbers of counterfeit devices are being made, especially of the more popular brands. Counterfeit devices mean there is no guarantee that you’ll get the good quality vaping experience you’ve paid for. The device components and/or e-liquid might be sub-par, or even potentially unsafe. Not a gamble I want to take. The QR code can be easily scanned with your phone camera and the product’s authenticity confirmed via the serial number embedded in the code.

My first thought on removing the packaging is that it’s definitely a unique design. Quite distinct from most of its competitors. A metallic coloured tube, inside of a faceted, clear plastic casing, which gives the device a sort of jewelled appearance. It’s rather pretty, but unfortunately a little bit too angular and bulky looking in my opinion. The mouthpiece in particular, is rather oddly shaped and doesn’t feel quite right to me. Overall, the design isn’t the most comfortable to either hold or vape from.

It has a battery indicator light, which lights up when you draw from the device, and also flashes several times to indicate when the battery is dead - as is pretty standard with disposable devices. I have to admit, the way the light illuminates the clear outer layer as you vape, does look pretty cool.

Despite the aesthetics not being quite to my taste, the product looks and feels well made, and seems to be of overall good quality.

As for the vaping experience, the flavours were excellent. Easily among the best I’ve tried. I tried out 5 different flavours from their fairly large range, and all of them were strong and bold without being overpowering. All of them were true to the flavour they were described as. Some flavours were better than others, but then I’ve found this to be true of many similar brands, and of course, personal preferences play a large role here too.

When it came to battery life, I must say I was a little disappointed. It was not by any means terrible, But at best, it was a few hours short of the usage time I get from an Elf Bar, and at worst, a few hours less than that again. For me, it’s this inconsistency that annoys me the most. I don’t like expecting a device to last me until the next day, only to find it dead by early that same evening.

There was a lot of variation in the battery lives of the crystal bars I tried. I know battery life expectancy or puff count isn’t an exact science. There are a whole lot of variables that affect it, so no, I don’t expect precision. But I do like a degree of predictability at least.

Pros:

  • High quality flavour
  • Wide flavour range
  • Mesh coil
  • Reasonably priced

Cons:

  • Unpredictable battery life
  • Oddly shaped mouthpiece
  • Product is not designed to be easily recycled and no guidance on recycling is provided by the company

Trevor's Review

The outer packaging looks similar to lots of other vape bars, but the devices themselves are different. I can’t think of any other disposable that looks like these. Once you open the box, take it out of the sleeve and remove the little nozzle and bottom sticker, what you have in your hand is a little bit of design heaven. If you are the kind of person who is drawn to a perfume or aftershave simply because of the trendy bottle it comes in, this Crystal Bar might just be perfect for you.

The vape unit is clear plastic, almost glass like, with beveled edges that all aim to give it a crystal look. It has a hard and solid feel to it and the small LED light comes through a silver metal base with a special pattern cut in it, this also has the effect of lighting up the whole unit when in use. Inside the “crystal” is a colour tube that corresponds to the flavour of the vape itself.

I used these crystal vapes non stop for 24hours before the battery ran out. This was heavy usage and most probably equal to nearly two packets of cigarettes. The 600 puffs would last for longer with lighter use.

My overall impression of the SKE Crystal bars is that they are excellent. The mesh coil delivers a smooth, sweet and satisfying draw, and the flavours are strong. They have an unusual and trendy look that I think stands out from other disposables.

Pros:

  • A great disposable for the fashion conscious and those who like to stand out
  • A wide range of fruity and sweet flavours
  • Delivers a good draw with plenty of flavour helped by the built in mesh coil
  • 24/48 hours (depending on usage)

Cons:

  • The hard crystal shell could possibly be difficult for those who have a grip problem
  • May be overly blingy for some

Afreen's Review

The packaging is vibrant, with a detailed description of the flavour, puffs, and the type of mesh coil. It also details the ingredients thoroughly with a description of where it has been manufactured, along with warning labels on the box stating that it is a highly addictive product.

The vape itself is encased in transparent plastic with diamond-cut edges that give an illusion of an actual crystal bar. Personally, I believe that the use of plastic should be limited when making these devices, or when they’re made from recycled materials then it should be made clear on the box/packaging. The key features of the vape are the 600 puffs, with 20mg nicotine, and the 1.2 ohm mesh coil which gives them a great smooth hit with decent flavour.

I have tried many disposable vapes so far but the SKE Crystal bars are by far the best around. In terms of usage, I feel as though they last longer than the Elf Bar 600s. I have had many Elf Bar 600s which have tasted burnt or funny after a few puffs, but I have never had that experience with the SKE Crystal Bars that I have used, and I’ve had quite a lot. They feel completely safe to use. They've got a great range of flavours to choose from too.

Pros:

  • Stronger and more pleasant tasting flavours than the Elf Bar 600s

Cons:

  • Maybe they could use less plastic so it’s smaller in size but still delivers the same result.

Fizzy Cherry
Fizzy Cherry
4.5 out of 5

I don’t know how they do it, but it wasn’t just cherry, it was indeed fizzy cherry! Usually I like fruit flavours to taste as natural as possible, but I can make an exception here.

It did have a vaguely synthetic taste, but only in the same way that a cherry sweet might, or perhaps cherryade? Neither of those things tastes much like an actual fresh cherry, of course. But they’re both still delicious in their own right.  And this flavour has more in common with the flavour of a cherry sweetie. It’s called ‘fizzy cherry’, and I think that’s bang on the mark.

My only complaint with this flavour was that the ‘fizziness’ was slightly drying on the throat after a while.

A fruity base with Morello cherry, like a black forest cake with a touch of fizz & ice. I sometimes got a tiny hint of tobacco in this one.

3.0 out of 5

It does definitely have flavour to it but it tastes a bit like Cola Flavoured which I’m not a massive fan of.

Little bit disappointed with this flavour. Initially it was fruity with a real noticeable sour flavour. But after just a few hits, the sourness seemed to dissipate and the flavour that was left just seemed a little bland and boring. Not unpleasant by any means, but not a favourite for me.

4.0 out of 5

I got tutti frutti from this Crystal Bar, it tasted like everything thrown in on this one. A subtle bit of blueberry & raspberry but no real sour hit to worry about, still very sweet like the others in this range.

3.5 out of 5

I found this vape too sweet for my liking. It definitely had flavour to it and some might enjoy it but I just wasn’t much of a fan of this one in particular.

Wow, extremely impressed with this flavour. It’s the most natural, authentic tasting fruit flavour that I’ve found in any disposable vape. Usually, any fruit flavour that isn’t ‘ice’ will be just too sweet for me to enjoy for very long before I start to find it sickly and overpowering. The flavours tasted so natural with this one that I used it all day and didn’t tire of it at all. The most distinct flavour for me was the peach, but there were definitely discernible notes of pineapple and mango in there too.

4.0 out of 5

Super sweet and fruity tropical taste with a cool edge, you can pick out different fruity flavours and you get that nutty mango on the exhale along with a hint of ice.

If you like a sweet vape this one is for you.

4.5 out of 5

With this one you get a burst of each flavour. The initial flavour on the inhale is pineapple, then as you’re exhaling you get a taste of mango. The only thing I’d mention is that there’s a lack of peach flavour in the vape; however, a great flavoured vape regardless.

Menthol
Menthol
4.0 out of 5

Perhaps not the most exciting flavour around, but sometimes that’s exactly what you need. Menthol is exactly what it says on the tin, a no nonsense, refreshing icy blast that is great beginning to end.

5.0 out of 5

An interesting take on menthol and not like any other menthol that I have tried. Like all of the SKE Crystal Bar range it is rich and sweet and it has a mystery taste that adds a creamy fruit flavour, this is a smooth tasting vape and maybe a menthol for those who don't usually like mint vapes

3.0 out of 5

I personally wouldn’t pick a menthol flavoured vape; however for people who aren’t fans of fruity kind of flavours then this is ideal for them as it’s got a strong minty taste to it.

Fruity, zingy and tangy. This is an amazingly refreshing flavour. The sharpness is just right and I can easily vape this all day long. It is a definite contender for my favourite flavour.

5.0 out of 5

This is a fresh tasting Crystal Bar with sweet lemon and tangy lime, perfectly blended and with a cool exhale. It is everything you would want from a vape with this name and tastes just like a summer drink on ice.

4.5 out of 5

It does real justice to the flavour’s name and tastes exactly like Lemon with Lime. Definitely one of my favourites!

Conclusion

The SKE Crystal Bar range is proving popular with all who try it. Both our taste test panel and Vapourcore's customer base have expressed extremely positive reviews of these products, and retail sales are growing.

In panel testing, the range scored highly for vibrant branding, packaging and a well-crafted device design, along with appreciation for the huge range of flavours available. The citrus blend of e liquid in the Lemon and Lime Crystal Bar was clearly a firm favourite and ranked highest of all the samples tested.

Whilst it was mentioned that the Crystal Bars may be too much of a statement 'blingy' vape for some, overall opinions are high and many found it to be an attractive and exciting device.

Given that there are so many new disposable vapes hitting the market right now it is hard to say with 100% certainty that any new product is going to be the next big thing and take the disposables market by storm, especially when you consider the magnitude of Elf Bar's dominance.

Clearly the SKE Crystal bar is a strong contender. It is similar in both size and performance, and can last the desired 600 puffs expected by disposable vape users. It is available in a diverse range of interesting flavours, as well as the most popular staples that people love from the Elf Bar range.

The experience of vaping a SKE Crystal Bar is fantastic - the draw is tight, with each puff delivering a super-smooth vape with a surprising flavour burst every single time.

Whilst most will not appreciate the performance benefit derived from the mesh coil technology within, it really does impress thanks to the increased absorption of e-liquid from the coil’s larger surface area giving a much improved taste, and it does this without any noticeable impact on longevity.

Overall thoughts: Although it is still early days, we predict that the Crystal Bar will indeed be successful and will significantly impact sales of the Elf Bar 600. It may even become the new no.1!

This looks nice but , is it worthwhile to spend so much effort on something that’s just going to be thrown away. The range of flavours is stellar though. My favourites are the Blueberry Cherry Cranberry and the Blue Fusion.

I have tried these but honestly I found them just too much. All the rage seems to be cram as much flavour and sugar in as possible, so much so that I struggle to get my nicotine fix fighting through the taste and smell. I did find them easier to vape after after a day or two but straight out of the packet they are a lot. Sorry, not a great advert but thought i’d throw my own views up here to add into the mix!

Whilst crystal bars do look snazzy, I personally think there are far better vapes out there now. The crystal flavours are SO strong and sweet they should probably come with a warning to be careful on the first drag! I think it is from the same brand but I did like the little amare vapes I bought recently. PS I would love to be a reviewer for you!

Karen Reading Tuesday, 30 May 2023 | 09:04

What a great idea to have reviews like this! I thank you as a long-term and loyal customer of yours 😁 It is soooooo hard to choose between brands as they all sound the same and so many new ones appear all the time so thank you for this guidance I will definitely give them a go.

Great reviews. Im loving the SKE vapes, with the FIZZ CHERRY becoming my favourite. Have tried lot’s of flavours over the years and this is now my go to. Keep up the great service Vapourcore, have recommended you to many friends!

Chris Murray Thursday, 4 May 2023 | 08:30

These are amazing I absolutely love them I highly recommend to everyone. The flavour in these vapes are lovely not too sweet and don’t kick back to ur throat like other brands, they taste just like what they are supposed to and it’s fabulous. The battery life for me personally is great I can buy any other vape and it’ll last me probably 2 days but with crystal bars they can last me for almost 4-5 days and I’ve been vaping for about 3 years now so I use them quite often. The price of them is amazing the cheapest I’ve found so far so I tend to buy a bulk worth about £30 and it’s a life saver it’s better than going to a shop and paying £10 each week
