How Long Do Vapes Last?

Vapes don’t last forever. From e-liquid, coils and vape devices themselves, everything has a “best before” date, but the question is: how long do vapes last? Here at Vapourcore, we have outlined exactly how long you should go before having to replace anything in your kit.

Does vape juice expire?

In short, yes, vape juice can expire too. Most e-liquids are flavoured, which often means that some e-liquids are prone to faster expiration more than others, due to the ingredients used. What signs should you look out for?

Change in colour

Nicotine oxidation is a natural process that happens every time the atoms of the nicotine molecule interact with the atoms in the oxygen molecules in the air.

There is no way to stop this from happening, as it is a natural occurrence. It shouldn’t affect vaping, however when oxidation occurs on a larger scale, it can affect the fluid and cause it to change colour.  If the colour of your vape juice has changed, you have nothing to worry about as this is just a normal reaction. But if the colour has changed significantly from when you bought it, you should consider avoiding it.

Changes in consistency

Understandably, the thickness of your vape juice will vary depending on what brand you are buying from and what ingredients are used. For instance, if your fluid is rich in Propylene Glycol, it will be more liquified, whereas if the juice is rich in Vegetable Glycerin, the consistency will be thicker.

If you are interested in doing vape smoke tricks, Vegetable Glycerin products are perfect for you.

You may notice that sometimes residue builds up in the bottom of your bottle. So, in order to check the consistency, you should shake it thoroughly before use. This is a typical reaction that occurs and is nothing to worry about, all the ingredients will merge back together. However, if it doesn’t, you should stop vaping the juice as it is not appropriate for use.

Top tip: A quick way to tell you right away if the juice has gone bad is to follow the process when you pour the vaping e-liquid into your device. Bear in mind that e-liquids are meant to drip from the bottle when poured, so if the consistency looks odd, avoid at all costs.

Odour

Much like food, you can check if vape juice is suitable for use by smelling it and assessing its condition. You can immediately tell if an e-liquid has gone bad according to the smell, as if it doesn’t smell like what is expected of the flavour, something is wrong.

When disposing of expired vape juice, you should be careful and be responsible. If you want to pour the liquid down the drain, ensure the fluid is diluted enough. In addition, a clever way of getting rid of vape juice, fill the bottle with some water to dilute the water and spray around your plants to protect them from insects, as it is a known fact that insects and pests dislike nicotine. To dispose of the bottle, check whether it is able to be recycled and dispose of it accordingly.

Furthermore, another way you will notice that an e-liquid has expired is by the nicotine content, which drops. Therefore, if you find yourself vaping more, it might be down to a fall in nicotine content.

How long does vape juice last?

Depending on the brand you’re using and the flavours in the liquid itself, generally speaking, the answer to “how long does vape juice last?” is around two years if properly stored in a cool and dark place. This is because the nicotine, the Vegetable Glycerin and the Propylene Glycol all have an estimated duration of one to two years, and they are the main ingredients in the juice. However, you should not dismiss the possibility of vape juice going bad before its expiration date.

Not storing the e-liquid properly can affect the longevity of your e-liquid’s life, but how to store vape juice correctly? Make sure you do the following to prevent continuously purchasing new vape juices:

  • Store them in a dark, cold and dry place
  • Keep your e-liquids tightly sealed

How long does a vape coil last?

Vape coils don’t last forever – and they’re not meant to. Therefore, it’s a good idea to know the tell-tale signs for when it’s time to change your vape coil, to avoid using an out-dated vaping device. Here are the most common questions asked by Vapourcore customers:

How do you know when to change a coil on a vape?

You may be wondering when to change a vape coil? But don’t fret, it’s actually much easier than you think. There are a few signs that will make it clear when a coil needs changing, and they revolve around the overall experience of vaping. You can tell when a coil needs changing when you get a burnt taste whilst vaping, this is a sign that the coil has burnt out and it’s time to replace it with a new one.

Similarly, if your vape liquid stops tasting how it should do, it tends to mean that the coil has stopped functioning correctly and you should think about changing to a fresh one.

In some cases, your vape can leak due to the coil being worn out, or you may hear a “gurgling” sound upon inhalation – these are some of the most popular signs that your vape coil needs replacing.

How often to change your vape coil?

You might be thinking “how long does a coil last in a vape?” but there’s not one answer for all. It varies from person to person, ranging from as little as 7 days to 21 days, but how often you change it depends entirely upon how much you vape. It also differs depending on the type of e-liquid you are using, and individual vaping habits too.

In an ideal world, you should keep enough vape coils to be able to change them every week. This avoids having to go a long time between replacements, as the harsh burnt flavour gets stronger over time. As a general rule, you should change your coil as soon as you begin to taste the burnt flavour in your mouth. Not only will this be unpleasant to taste, but it will start to affect the quality of vaping.

How long do vape batteries last?

Most e-cigarettes have lithium-ion batteries, which tend to have a long life-span. But in order to guarantee your vape battery has the best start, it is important to ensure you give it a good first charge – ideally reaching 100%. This means the battery should last longer and the charge should last longer as well.

It’s a good idea to charge the battery as soon as the battery indicator tells you to, otherwise this can damage your battery and reduce the effectiveness of your vape’s battery life. However, according to Battery University, you do not need to charge the battery in full every time. They advise:

“Lithium-ion does not need to be fully charged; a partial charge is better.”

As a result, sticking to this advice should ensure a good battery life for your device.
